Our Mission
Every school year, administrators and teachers face the same challenge: how do you divide students into classes that are balanced, fair, and set every child up for success? It's a process that traditionally takes weeks of manual work — shuffling spreadsheets, debating placements, and second-guessing decisions.
Shibutz exists to solve that problem. We build software that helps elementary schools create balanced class lists with a structured placement workflow, so educators can spend less time on logistics and more time reviewing student needs.
How It Works
Shibutz turns the roster, student scales, friend requests, and placement rules you enter into proposed class lists. Staff review the results and decide whether the tradeoffs work for their school.

- Generate a placement — use your configured limits and preferences to create a draft for review
- Review and revise — inspect the class statistics and student table. To change a placement, update the workspace data or rules and generate another result

Why We Built Shibutz
The idea for Shibutz came from watching educators struggle with a process that hadn't changed in decades. Class placement affects everything — friendships, learning outcomes, teacher workload — yet most schools still rely on gut instinct and sticky notes.
We believed technology could do better. Not by replacing educators' judgment, but by giving them better tools to make informed decisions. Shibutz brings rosters, placement rules, and class statistics together, so the final class lists reflect both data and the human understanding that only educators have.
Who We Are
Shibutz was created by Sagui Itay, a software engineer and parent who saw firsthand how much time and energy schools invest in class placement every year. Combining deep technical expertise with a genuine concern for educational equity, Sagui built Shibutz to make fair student placement accessible to every school.
The product focuses on the annual placement workflow: collect the roster, record staff decisions, generate class lists, and review them before sharing. It does not replace a school's student information system or professional judgment.

- Sign-in and profile
- Clerk handles account sign-in and the profile details you choose to save.
- Roster and results
- Your rosters, placement rules, settings, and saved results are linked to your account.
- Generation and export
- When you generate or export a placement, the Shibutz placement service processes the roster and placement details needed for that request.
- School approval
- Use only student information your school has authorized you to share. Review our privacy details before uploading a roster.
We use Google Analytics to understand site and product use. Rejecting analytics cookies prevents analytics storage, but usage information can still be sent to Google.
Before You Import Student Data
Student data is sensitive. Before importing a roster, confirm that your school approves the service and the information you plan to include.
- Account access — workspace reads and changes are checked against the signed-in account
- Data minimization — include only the student information needed for placement. Avoid unnecessary medical or family details in free-text notes
- Staff review — check the contents and recipients of exported lists before sharing them through school-approved channels
- Transparent practices — read our Privacy Policy and student data privacy and compliance page when reviewing the service with your school
